The head of the Treasury of Stamps, Banknotes and Coins of the Organization of Libraries, Museums and Documents Center of Astan Quds Razavi said, “At present, more than 980,000 bank notes, coins and postal items are kept in the treasury of stamps, coins and banknotes of Astan Quds Razavi.”
According to Astan News correspondent, Mohammad Hossein Yazdinejad, the head of Treasury of Stamps, Banknotes and Coins of the Organization of Libraries, Museums and Documents Center of Astan Quds Razavi announced, “At present, more than nine hundred eighty thousand bank notes, coins and postal items are kept in the treasury of stamps, coins and the bank notes of Astan Quds Razavi.”
“From this number more than two thousand objects, only in the first six months of the year 2018 have been added to the collection through the purchase and donation of the devotees of Ali ibn Musa al-Reza (A.S.),” he stated.
Mohammad Hossein Yazdinejad noted some statistics on the subject and pointed out, “Since the beginning of the year, more than 700 pieces of coin including 33 pieces of gold, 312 pieces of silver, 111 pieces of nickel coins, 141 pieces of copper coins, 7 pieces of bronze coins and 87 pieces of iron coins were donated to the treasury and more than 222 pieces of silver coins are purchased, and currently, more than sixty-five thousand pieces of coins are kept in this treasury.”
He described the material of the coins of the collection as gold, silver, copper, copper-nickel, steel and bronze, which belong to various historical periods such as the Sasanians, the Elymais, the Islamic eras, the Timurid, the Mongols Ilkhanate, the Safavid, the Qajar and Zand.
Yazdinejad also noted the addition of more than 500 bank notes to the collection from the beginning of the year, saying, “Out of this number, about hundred bank notes have been purchased and four hundred of Iranian and foreign bills are donated by collectors and devoted people to Hazrat Reza (A.S.) and with this number, there are now more than twenty-four thousand bank notes in this treasury.”
“In the course of the first six months of the year 2018, about six hundred stamps and one hundred of stamped and none-stamped envelopes of the Qajar period and Pahlavi I, telegraphs, stamped envelopes of the day and postcards have been donated to this treasury, and at present, the total number of stamps and other postal items of this treasury has reached the limit of eight hundred ninety thousand pieces” the head of Treasury of Treasury of the Stamps, Coins and Bank Notes of Astan Quds Razavi expressed.
It is worth mentioning that the treasury of the stamps, bank notes and coins of the Astan Quds Razavi Museum, with objects from 240 countries and the former colonies of the world is open to visit as a panoramic view of the history, culture, art and civilization of various nations from 8 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. on workdays and from 8:00 to 12:00 on holidays located on the minus one floor of the Central Museum of Astan Quds Razavi at the Kowsar Courtyard of the Razavi Holy Shrine.
